The story of David in the Books of Samuel is told with an elegant economy that encourages or perhaps even compels the reader to inquire into the motives of characters, including God. Focusing on several crucial episodes from the David narrative, Zeitlan will consider how to make sense of God’s relationship to the ancient Israelite monarchy.
Alan Zeitlan is a tutor at St. John’s College. He received his M.A. in English from the University of California – Davis and his Ph.D. in Classics at the University of California – Berkeley.
