Computer Information for Incoming Freshmen
Dorm Network Connections
All of the dorms at St. John’s College are wired for access to the Internet and the campus network. In addition, wireless network access is available in a number of common spaces around campus for use with laptop computers. You will need a “Network Account” (see below) and instructions to connect your computer to the campus network. These will be provided to you during the registration process. A network cable may be purchased in the bookstore.
The Information Technology Services (ITS) office operates the campus network and provides consulting and support assistance you may need.
Student Computer Center
The Student Computer Center is located on the lower level of Evans Science Laboratory. It is equipped with Windows and Macintosh computers, laser printers and a scanner. The primary purpose of the facility is to provide you with access to Office applications, email, Web, and other applications needed for, and of benefit to, your academic work. With your ID/card key, the center is accessible twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week during the academic year. Student Assistants are available in the center at designated times to provide you with assistance in the use of campus computer resources or computer problems.
Network Account
You are provided with a “Network Account,” a username and password that you will use to access campus computers, the campus network, your college-provided personal email and disk space. You will be given this account information, and a document describing appropriate use guidelines, during registration. Acceptance of an account signifies that you have read and agree to comply with the guidelines.
For further questions or inquiries about computer and network services, please call the ITS Help Desk at 505-984-6196. Please identify yourself as an incoming freshman.
